PNG AND SWEDEN STRENGTHENS BILATERAL TIES

The Ambassador of Sweden to Papua New Guinea, His Excellency, Mr Daniel Blockert, presented his letter of credence to the Governor General of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, His Excellency, Grand Chief Sir Bob Bofeng Dadae, at the Government House on April 10, 2025. 

 

The occasion formalized PNG-Sweden bilateral relations that will be progress going forward. This also signifies the Swedish Government’s commitment to its relationship with Papua New Guinea and its Government. 

 

Following this event, Ambassador Blockert paid courtesy call on Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. Justin Tkatchenko, and Secretary for the Department of Foreign Affairs, Mr Elias Wohengu, as part of the formalities for establishing contact with the Ministry and the Department.

  

The meeting discussed potential areas of engagement in important sectors, including Mining, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), trade and economic. Ambassador Blockert expressed Sweden’s keen interest in pursuing opportunities for collaborations in these sectors in PNG.  

 

Minister Tkatchenko affirmed the Ministry’s and Department’s support for further discussions and collaboration on areas of interest and to ensure that the relationship between both countries is based on mutual trust and respect.  

 

Sweden is a highly innovative and competitive economy with strengths in various sectors, including technology, green energy, and manufacturing. Establishing relations will open doors for grater development partnership. 

 

Papua New Guinea always maintains its strategic position that every relationship is based on trust and it promotes and serves the interests of the nation.
