PAPUA NEW GUINEA’S FIRST AMBASSADOR TO THE UNITED NATIONS IN GENEVA PRESENTED HER LETTER OF CREDENCE TO THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE UNITED NATIONS IN GENEVA, SWITZERLAND

Her Excellency Michelle Hau’ofa, the newly appointed Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva, Switzerland, officially presented her Letter of Credentials to Her Excellency, Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations (UN) in Geneva, at the United Nations Office, on November 4, 2025.
The ceremony signifies the appointment and recognition of Papua New Guinea’s first Ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, following the establishment of its first Permanent Mission in Geneva in April this year.
Her Excellency Hau’ofa was appointment by the National Executive Council to head PNG’s new permanent Mission in Geneva. This appointment underscores the Marape-Rosso Government’s commitment for increased PNG’s diplomatic presence in important countries and to advance the country’s foreign policy interests.
Ambassador Hau’ofa, when presenting her letter of credence, affirmed enduring commitment to strong representation of Papua New Guinea in this multilateral environment to promote and advance PNG’s cooperations with international organizations like United Nations and other development partners.
“I represent my country with a deep sense of responsibility in this distinguished multilateral environment, and sincerely appreciate the global work of the UN, especially in PNG in areas including health, education, environment and climate action, human rights, trade, investment and sustainable development. We remain committed to the principles and purposes of the United Nations; to multilateral cooperation; and to the pursuit of peace, security and prosperity for all,” Ambassador said.
Ambassador Hau’ofa further stated that the Government of Papua New Guinea fully recognized the importance of opening a mission and having a diplomatic presence in this strategic location.
The occasion marked a significant achievement of the Department of Foreign Affairs in implementing government’s priorities, in strengthening PNG’s cooperation with international organizations based in Geneva.
Ambassador Hau’ofa is supported by Mr. John Emilio, Deputy Permanent Representative and Mr. Issac Givolo, First Secretary to PNG’s Permanent Mission in Geneva, Switzerland.
