Port Moresby, Tuesday 22nd April 2025 – Businessman Jonathan Steiner has been appointed the Republic of Kazakhstan Honorary-Consul-designate of Papua New Guinea. 

Mr Steiner was appointed on the basis of his well credentialed background including constructive and leading-edge private sector acumen both in PNG and Kazakhstan. 

Mr Steiner’s appointment as Honorary-Consul-designate of PNG to the Republic of Kazakhstan is aimed at strengthening and expanding in a practical and meaningful manner the existing cordial bilateral cooperation between both nations. 

This also supports the recent establishment of formal diplomatic relations between PNG and the republic of Kazakhstan on March 24th, 2023. 

Both Kazakhstan and PNG aspire to increase economic self-reliance, improve standard of living, be recognised as regional leaders and maintain cultural heritage while modernising.  

These shared visions can help frame a strategic partnership that is not only economic but cultural, educational and diplomatic. 

Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. Justin Tkatchenko MP, said Mr Steiner’s appointment would assist in building a new relationship and partnership with Kazakhstan from Mr Steiner’s vast experience and knowledge of the region. 

“As the new Honorary-consul you will work with us to help promote PNG in your region and encourage your people to visit our country.”  

Mr Steiner was officially commissioned last week as the Honorary-consul. 

He worked in PNG through his company operating with big corporations and he is looking forward to building up the relationship for the benefit of both our countries.
