DFA LAUNCHES STAFF HOUSING PROJECT

Port Moresby, 11 December 2025

The Ministry and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) launched the Staff Housing Project at the Duran Farm on November 28, 2025. The occasion marked a significant milestone achievement of the Department for institutional strengthening and enhancing staff welfare.

The project aims to provide quality and affordable homes for dedicated staff. Under this initiative, the first batch of 56 officers were allocated blocks with titles. These recipients include long-serving staff and retired diplomats who have contributed significantly to the Department and the Papua New Guinea Foreign Service over the years.

The event was officiated by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Justin Tkachenko, Secretary Mr. Elias Wohengu, Managing Director for the National Housing Commission, Mr. Abel Tol, Deputy Secretary for Corporate Affairs of the Department of Justice and Attorney General, Ms. Michelle Taumpson, and other distinguished guests and DFA officers.

Minister Tkatchenko stated that the 56 blocks of land will be ready by the first quarter of next year. He said the Department of Foreign Affairs and the National Housing Commission will assist the homeowners with the necessary support for building their desired homes.

“The allocated blocks will have proper fencing, and electricity and water connections before officers can move in to build their houses. “It’s about partnership and friendship, putting words into action, making it happen for these much-needed assets for the people,” Minister Tkatchenko added.

Secretary Mr. Wohengu acknowledged Minister Tkatchenko for his support in ensuring the progress of the project and affirmed the Department’s commitment to continue this initiative.

“We will begin the Staff Housing Scheme for the staff this year, and it is my intention to continue until each and every Foreign Service Officer of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea has a home,” Mr. Wohengu said.

This milestone achievement underscores the Department’s commitment to achieving quality, adequate, and affordable housing for all staff.

The Department will ensure this project is delivered through a proper process and that it aligns with the Government’s Public Service Home Ownership Scheme (PSHOS).
