DFA ISSUES LAND TITLES TO DEDICATED STAFF FOR QUALITY AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING

The Department of Foreign Affairs has officially issued 56 land titles to its staff, fulfilling a key commitment to enhance staff welfare through the Department’s Staff Housing Scheme Project.
In a small but significant ceremony held at the Murray Barracks Officers’ Mess on December 19, Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Elias Wohengu, OBE, presented the titles to the recipients. The group comprised long-serving staff who have dedicated years to the Department, as well as officers currently serving in PNG’s Overseas Missions and Posts.
Speaking during the presentation, Mr. Wohengu acknowledged the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Justin Tkatchenko, BEM, OL, MP, for his leadership in making this project a success for the Department and the staff.
“Under Minister Tkatchenko’s leadership, the Department has achieved this significant project, with the completion of this first batch in 2025,” Mr. Wohengu stated. “The issuance of these 56 titles is only the beginning. It is our shared vision to ensure that every Foreign Service Officer of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea has a home of their own.”
The Secretary emphasized that the initiative is a recognition of the staff’s dedication and loyalty. He reaffirmed that every officer deserves appreciation for their unwavering commitment to the Department and the Papua New Guinea Diplomatic Service.
The Department has confirmed that the allocated plots will be equipped with secure perimeter fencing, reliable electricity connections and water utility access before the staff can move in to build their desired homes.
The Department of Foreign Affairs remains committed to providing ongoing support to staff as they begin the transition to building their permanent homes.
