HIGH COMMISSIONER-DESIGNATE OF REPUBLIC OF GHANA TO PNG PRESENTS LETTER OF CREDENCE.
Port Moresby, Thursday 17th July 2025, His Excellency Mr. Samuel Yao Kumah, the High Commissioner-designated of the Republic of Ghana to the Independent State of Papua New Guinea presented his letter of credentials to the Acting Governor General and the Speaker of the National Parliament of Papua New Guinea, Hon. Job Pomat, MP, at the Government House.
The event marked start of diplomatic duties of Ambassador Kumah in Papua New Guinea, reinforcing both countries’ commitment to maintain and increase mutual friendship and cooperation.
During the occasion, High Commissioner Kumah conveyed warm greetings and appreciation from the President of the Republic of Ghana His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, to the Government and people of Papua New Guinea.
Acting Governor General Pomat welcomed His Excellency Kumah to Papua New Guinea and expressed sincerer appreciation for the kind sentiments from President Mahama, to the Government and people of Papua New Guinea.
Mr. Pomat affirmed that PNG and Ghana enjoyed warm bilateral relations, underpinned by their common principles of democracy, good governance and mutual respect. He recognized both country’s critical roles with shared visions and commitments in global affairs.
Mr. Pomat added” Papua New Guinea and Ghana are active members of key international organizations including the Commonwealth of nations, United Nations and the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS). These multilateral platforms provide vital avenues through which both countries could collaborate and advocate on issues of shared interest such as climate change, ocean governance, global peace and security, and other global priorities”.
His Excellency, High Commissioner Kumah committed to strong and enduring relation of both countries through increased participation and exploring new opportunities. He noted a comprehensive frame work for cooperation in areas of people-to-people exchanges which include cultural exchange and education, and for exploring new opportunities.
Papua New Guinea and the Republic of Ghana established diplomatic relations on 22nd August 1977 at the non-resident High Commissioner Level. As Papua New Guinea proudly celebrates its 50th Independence this year, it also commemorates 48 years of formal diplomatic relations with Ghana.
